About Being Ian
The half-hour program follows the escapades of Ian Kelley, a 12-year-old film fanatic with an overactive imagination. Being Ian mixes slapstick silliness with wry humour and Ian's off-the-wall fantasies that regularly turn a typical day at the beach into Castaway and an ordinary camping trip into The Blair Witch Project.
Behind Being Ian
Being Ian airs on YTV and is the creation of Ian Corlett, who also co-created Yvon of the Yukon. The idea for Being Ian was born when Ian thought of doing an animated show based on his own childhood in Burnaby, B.C where he dreamed of being the next Steven Spielberg. www.ytv.com
"Being Ian was interesting because everything made sense...everything was
funny and entertaining. Great for the whole family!"
Jessica, Grade 4 Vancouver Student Juror
"I'm a big animation fan, but to see animation that has such an unusual design, great characters-the whole movie element is something that children eight to 12 just love; it's what their life is like," said Deirdre Brennan, of national Australian network ABC. "And it's just funny-it's so wonderful to see something that makes you laugh out loud; and it really does, it's a great show."

Executive Producer, Blair Peters
"I think the charm of the show is that it shows kids you can have a big imagination and be slightly out of the norm. We're saying that, yes, it's possible to be out of the usual groups at school and not be a total geek."

Blair Peters on the Prize
"The Shaw Rocket Prize has gained high recognition in just two years and has become a very prestigious award. We are extremely honoured to have been chosen as a finalist by the distinguished international jury. It shows that Being Ian is as well received around the world as it is in Canada. And we are thrilled that the final judging will be done by kids, because that's who we make these shows for!"
Shaw Rocket Prize
Now in its second year, the Shaw Rocket Prize is the largest of its kind in Canada. The winner of the $50,000 prize will be chosen by a national student jury through the Royal Conservatory of Music's Learning Through The Arts media literacy program. The winner will be awarded on May 3, 2006 at an event in Toronto.
