In 2005, the Shaw Rocket Fund established a $50,000 annual award for the best independently produced children's, youth or family program, involving both esteemed industry professionals as International Jurors, and children from across Canada as Kid Jurors.
The Prize evolves with the industry, and now includes evaluation of not only the television program, but related digital content such as websites and applications
In 2012, the Shaw Rocket Fund became presenting partner of the International Kids Emmy Awards in an initiative to promote excellence in Canadian children's television programming internationally.
The Shaw Rocket Fund hosted its first round of Mentorship Sessions at the 2012 Banff World Media Festival. Successful applicants were given the opportunity to meet with one of four children's programming industry professionals to ask questions and receive advice on getting their programs into the industry.
In 2010, the Shaw Rocket Fund performed its first study among young Canadians on the use of media and technology. It examined online behaviour, attitudes towards content consumption, preferences, and attitudes towards Canadian content. View the study here.
